KOICA to train BBS staff

BBS-KOICA

The Korean government’s development arm, KOICA, will train up the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) staff in the next three years to improve their ‘statistical capacity’.

The training aims to design better economic and social development strategies

KOICA’s Resident Representative for Bangladesh Kim Bok-Hee and Additional Secretary of Statistics and Informatics Division Md Azizur Rahman signed the Minutes of Meeting (MM) on Wednesday.

It says the training would be “country demand-driven, tailored to circumstances of Bangladesh”.

At least 45 participants will join the multi-year training programme from this October until 2015.

It will focus on agricultural and fishery census, survey methodology and data processing, and environmental statistics.

Earlier in 2008, KOICA implemented a $1.58 million project at BBS to upgrade “its statistics production and analytical capacity by introducing a modern data base system”.
