Two people, including an eight-year-old boy, were killed during a gunfight between the activists of Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over dropping a railway tender in the CRB area of Chittagong on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Arman Hossain, 8, a passersby, son of Siddique Ahmed of a nearby slum, and Saju Palit, 25.

Law enforcers arrested 22 people including BCL central committee assistant general secretary Saiful Islam Limon in a drive from city’s Polo Ground area around 2:30pm, Mohiuddin Selim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station told The Daily Star.

Limon had been expelled from the organisation following his arrest, said BCL General Secretary Nazimul Adnan.

The activists of Jubo League, youth front of the ruling Awami League, and BCL, student body of the AL, engaged in the gun battle around noon over dropping a tender on the renovation work of Feni Railway Station in Chittagong east zone, reported our correspondent quoting the OC Selim.

Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar — a central committee member of the youth front — led his group while Saiful Islam Limon headed his men in the gunfight, that left the minor boy dead on the spot, the OC said.

Saju succumbed to his injuries after admitting to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, he added.
