The prime minister’s ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy on Monday blamed ‘dictator Ziaur Rahman for not only protecting Bangabandhu’s killers, but also prohibiting these murderers from ever being tried by passing an indemnity ordinance.

“The killers of Bangabandhu were not only protected by dictator Ziaur Rahman, but under martial law he passed an indemnity ordinance that prohibited these killers from ever being tried,” Joy wrote in his Facebook page.

“He (Ziaur Rahman) even rewarded them with diplomatic posts,” he added.

The premier’s ICT adviser said: “On this day, 41 years ago most of my family was murdered … the murderers were so ruthless that they did not even spare my aunts and 10-year-old uncle.”

He wrote everyone except his grandfather was buried in unmarked graves in Banani graveyard. “The killers were so heinous,” he said.

“Imagine being my mother and aunt, away on holiday, when this happens … they lost everything and could not even go back to their own homeland,” he added.

Joy wrote that worse was that information was hard to come by in those days and so they did not even know for certain if anyone, including their little brother, was alive.

“Please join my family and I today in remembering Bangabandhu and my whole family,” he said.
