It’s not election, but cruel joke: Fakhrul

BNP-Fakhrul

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam on Saturday alleged that the government’s ill-effort to cling to power has made Sunday’s national election a farce and a cruel joke.

In a statement, he said, “This election has now truly turned into a farce of cruel joke. Awami League has chosen the path of such an election, which lacks people’s involvement. It’s just an effort to hang onto power as the current regime has become politically bankrupt.”

The BNP spokesman also alleged that the government is going to establish dictatorship by destroying the all democratic rules and norms using force as it has got completely defeated socially, morally and politically.

Fakhrul hoped that the people who believe in the Liberation War’s spirit will never accept such a stage-managed election. “They’ve already rejected it through their movement.”

He called upon people from all walks of life, including farmers, workers, professionals, businessmen and followers of all religions, and communities to extend their full support to the call of opposition leader Khaleda Zia for peacefully boycotting the ‘farcical’ election in a bid to uphold the democratic rights, national dignity and the country’s independence.

“We want to peacefully respond to the fascist acts. We strongly believe that people’s sacrifice and justified movement never go in vain… The victory of the people of Bangladesh is inevitable,” the BNP leader added.
