Hasina asks people to choose her party again

She said the government implemented most of its public commitment it had made before previous general election. “In some areas we have done more than what we had promised.”.

The Prime Minister promised her administration would complete the rest of the work.

Hasina, who heads the Awami League, sought blessings of the people and said, “… and please cast your vote for boat [Awami League’s electoral symbol] in the next elections.”

She made the appeal on Friday as she was speaking to reporters after exchanging Eid greetings with different sections of people including party leaders, professionals, judges and diplomats at her official residence Ganabhaban.

The Grand Alliance government was only working for the people, she said. As for herself, the Prime Minister said,“I am working day and night tirelessly. I have nothing to ask for myself.”

“We will expect that the the people will not be misguided in future by any propaganda. They (will) vote for those who are honest and devoted for development,” she said.

Hasina again snubbed the opposition’s demand for a nonpartisan government. “No unconstitutional government will come to power again in this country,” she said, referring to the unelected caretaker governments.

Hundreds of people thronged the Ganabhaban to greet the Prime Minister on Friday morning.

Hasina waved at the people and greeted them with a smile after 10am.

A 6-year-old was seen standing in the long queue with a stick of tuberose. The Prime Minister accepted the flower and gave the child a chocolate.

She shook hands with the women who came to greet her. The exchange of greetings lasted about an hour.

Ruling Awami League Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Advisory Council member Amir Hossain Amu, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Shahara Khatun, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, Information Hasanul Haq Inu, State Minister for LGRD Jahangir Kabir Nanak, State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam, Hasina’s media advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and her special aide Mahbubul Haque Shakil were seen accompanying the Prime Minister at the time.

Then she exchanged Eid greetings with diplomats and Supreme Court judges.

Special meal was prepared for over a thousand physically challenged and poor at the Ganabhaban this year.

The Prime Minister is celebrating Eid with her daughter Saima Hossain Putul and her grandchildren. Her son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy went back to the US a few days before Eid and is expected to return later this month.
