Growing abductions, killings irk prominent citizens

Prominent city dwellers on Saturday expressed their grave concern over the rise in the incidents of abduction, forced disappearance and killing in recent times.

 

They staged a human chain in front of the Sangsad Bhaban on Manik Mian Avenue and demanded immediate arrest of the criminals involved in the heinous incidents.

 

Speaking on the occasion, chairman of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Sultana Kamal said as citizens they are deeply concerned over the incidents of abduction, forced disappearance and killing across the country.

 

At one stage of the programme, police seized the mike and banner from the peaceful demonstrators, but failed to stop the programme.

 

The human chain was also addressed by general secretary of Sushasoner Jonno Nagorik Badiul Alam Majumder, former caretaker government adviser Rasheda K Chowdhury and Centre for Policy Dialogue distinguished fellow Debapriya Bhatcharya.
