Govt to be ousted thru’ mass upsurge: Noman

BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman on Tuesday warned that the government will be ousted through a mass upsurge if it does not arrange a fresh and inclusive election without further delay.

“Those elected without people’s vote have no right to sit in parliament. It’s an illegitimate regime which has no mandate of people. So, hold a fresh election with the participation of all immediately. Or else, you’ll be washed way in the face of a mass upheaval,” he said.

The BNP leader was addressing a discussion at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity arranged by Bangladesh Praktan Sainik Sangstha.

He alleged that the government has stanched people’s basic and constitutional rights after illegally assuming office. “The government is not allowing holding any rally and taking out procession by those who speak against it. It’s totally contrary to the constitution.”

The former minister alleged that the current regime has resorted to repressive acts and killings and enforced disappearances to cling to power.

Mentioning that the rule of law has now been obliterated, Noman said those who are raising their voices against killings, forced disappearances and the government’s misdeeds are being sent to jails implicating in ‘false’ cases.

He said the Awami League-led government at the behest of a neighbouring country has created a conflicting situation in the country by scrapping the non-party caretaker government system through the 15th amendment to the constitution.

“It can be possible to rule the country by force, but it won’t last long. Awami League is now in power by force. They must go one day and face trial. No one will be spared,” the BNP leader warned.

Noman urged the BNP leaders and activists to get ready for toppling this regime through a strong movement. “Nothing can be achieved without a movement. So, take necessary preparations to take to the streets to ensure the fall of the current administration.”
