Having waited for full five days for her husband working at the collapsed Savar building, Ratna Begum has now given up the hope of his return alive. Now all she wants is his body.

“Give me a trace of my husband. If it’s not possible to return him alive, please return his body at least. Now I want nothing other than my husband’s body,” she was heard wailing on Monday.

Ratna, with her six-month baby in the lap, broke into tears while talking to bdnews24.com at Savar’s Adhar Chandra High School grounds.

Her husband Ruhul Amin was working in a garment factory on the sixth floor of Rana Plaza when the commercial building collapsed on Apr 24.

Since the accident, Ratna has been running from the debris to the school grounds to hospital morgues in search of her husband.

“What will happen to this baby? How will I raise him?” she asked with no around with a convincing answer.

Ratna said Ruhul were not willing to go to the factory on the fateful day as a crack was noticed in the building the previous day.

“The day the crack was seen, he had said he would not go to the factory again after drawing all his wages. But the next day he was called to the factory. He didn’t want to go. But the management threatened to cut his two-day’s wages in case of absence that day,” she said.

Ratna said on getting threats, Ruhul went to the factory, and there had been no trance of him since then.

Ruhul, hailing from Gouripur in Mymensingh, lived at Arapara area in Savar with his wife and the baby.
