Britain’s first woman mayor of Bangladeshi origin

Bangladeshi-origin Labour Councillor Nadia Shah has been appointed the mayor of Camden.

The appointment was made at a special inauguration ceremony on Wednesday. Nadia is the first woman mayor in Britain of Bangladeshi origin.

Nadia succeeded Councillor Larraine Revah as the mayor of Camden for 2016-17.

Naida, born and brought up in Camden, was elected as a councillor over a year ago, for the Regents Park Ward, and thoroughly enjoys contributing to positive changes for the citizens living in Camden.

Nadia’s ancestral home is at Kulaura of Moulvibazar in Bangladesh.

Her husband Jajil Shah works as the chief of Information Technology department at Camden Council.

Nadia completed her graduation from Greenwich University and started her career as an investment advertiser at NatWest Bank of England. She also worked at Home office and several departments of the local and central government of Britain.
