Referring to Wednesday’s US results that brought Republican candidate Donald Trump to the White House, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, “The Democratic party was in power but the people in America could manage to express their opinion freely.”

He told reporters at the party office in Naya Paltan: “I hope our prime minister will take a lesson from this and think twice before saying things like ‘we won the Jan 5 election in 2014 with surge of votes’.”

However, BNP activists were seen active on the social media campaigning for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton until the elections day. They published a collage with photos of Hilary and BNP chief Khaleda Zia.

“Our chairperson Khaleda Zia has already congratulated Trump,” he said.

The senior BNP leader slated the government over recent anarchic incidents like attacks on temples, sexual abuse and violence against minor girls taking place across the country.

He mentioned about his party’s ongoing preparations for holding rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Nov 13.

“We have already formally applied to the Housing and Public Works Department and Dhaka Metropolitan Police. We hope we will get permission this time,” he said.
