BNP to join AL council: Alal

Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal said his party will join the 20th council session of Bangladesh Awami League for the sake of democracy.

BNP will prove it’s an open-minded political party by joining AL’s council, he said at a programme in the capital’s National Press Club on Friday.

Jatiyatabadi Bondhu Dal organised the programme in memory of late BNP leader Hannan Shah.

“We are elated that we have been invited. But, you [AL] didn’t attend our council. You didn’t even phone us to apologise as courtesy for not joining in our council,” said the BNP leader.

“However, we are not narrow-minded like you…. and we’ll will prove on the council day that BNP is a broad-minded democratic party,” he added.

Earlier on Thursday, ruling AL invited BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to its 20th council session scheduled to be held on 22-23 October.
