B’desh suffers humiliating innings and 248-run defeat against Sri Lanka

Hosts Bangladesh suffered a humiliating an innings and 248 runs defeat against touring Sri Lanka in the first test of two-match series that concluded an hour after the lunch on the 4th day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.

This is the 2nd biggest ever test win by an innings for the Sri Lankan Lions as

Bangladesh still 248 runs short of making the visitors to bat again in the 2nd innings.

 

An innings deficit of 498 was demoralizing enough for Bangladesh to capitulate without a fight, and there was no stoic resistance from them to take the game to the fifth day.

Sri Lankan Lions narrowly missed their biggest innings victory of 254 runs against Zimbabwe 10 years ago.

Bangladesh resumed their 2nd innings Thursday morning with overnight total 35 for one in 9 overs with deficit of 463 runs and finally dismissed for 250 runs in 51.5 overs frustrating cricket-crazy home fans with only two down

Mominul Haque scoring fifty runs off 57 balls with eight boundaries.

 

Sri Lankan seamers began the slide before the middle order succumbed to the off-spin of Dilruwan Perera, who took a five-wicket haul in only his second Test conceding 109 runs in 19.5 overs.

 

Lower order Al-Amin Hossain made an unbeaten 32 runs off 18 balls with a four and four sixes, Nasir Hossain scored 29 runs off 41 balls with five fours, Shakib Al Hasan made 25 runs off 32 balls with two fours and a six while Shohag Gazi scored 23 runs off 19 balls with two fours and two sixes.

 

One down night watch batsman Marshall Ayub (11) able to add just more 7 runs to make 18 runs score while another night watch batsman Shamsur Rahman failed to add any run with overnight score of 9 in the 4th day.

 

Aprt from Dilruwan Perera 5 wickets haul, Suranga Lakmal captured 3 wickets for 39 runs in 14 overs.

 

Earlier, Sri Lanka made a record 730 runs (6 dec in 187.5 overs) on the 3rd day and took a huge 498-run first innings lead against Bangladesh which was the highest innings against Bangladesh after West Indies’ 648 runs for 9 (dec) in Khulna in 2012.

 

Mahela Jayawardena made his 7th double ton and Kithruwan Vithanage hit maiden century in the first test match on Wednesday.
