AL-JaPa clash leaves 1 dead in Bogra

A Sramik League man was killed in a clash between activists of Jatiya Party and Awami League in Santahar municipality under Adamdighi in Bogra on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, also younger brother of Awami League mayoral candidate in the recently held municipality election Rashedul Islam Raja who lost the polls.
After the municipal polls held on December 30, the local Awami League
men alleged that JaPa supporters did not cast their votes in favour of Raja, reports United News of Bangladesh.
Activists of both the parties locked into an altercation around 1:00pm today over the issue.
At one stage, they attacked each other with sharp weapons that left Shafiqul dead on the spot.
The ruling party men also torched the houses of several JaPa men in the area.
On information, police rushed in and fired 30 gunshots in the air and teargas shell to bring the situation under control, said officer-in-charge of Adamdighi Police Station Shawkat Kabir.
