Abuls spared to protect bigwig: Khaleda

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia

Branding former communications minister Syed Abul Hossain and former state minister for foreign affairs Abul Hasan Chowdhury as thieves, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday said the government had spared the duo in a bid to prevent revealing of bigwig’s name.

“Country’s dignity has been destroyed due to bribery even before starting construction of the Padma bridge, she said.

“Why the names of two Abuls were dropped?” she questioned while addressing a freedom fighter reception rally at Mahanagar Natya Mancha in the capital.

She further added: “The government knows that the bigwig’s name might be revealed if actions are taken against them.”

The main opposition party organised the programme on the occasion of victory day. Several hundred freedom fighters and huge number of party leaders, workers and supporters attended the programme.

Maj (retd) Shahjahan Omar, convener of the reception preparation committee presided over the programme.
