Eminent writer Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and his wife Yasmeen Haque have received death threat through text sent from unknown numbers.
Akhter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad police station, said Zafar Iqbal, chairman of computer science and engineering department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, filed a general diary with the police station on Friday night after getting the threat.
Two separate texts were sent to Yasmeen and Zafar’s phones at 12:15am and 2:30am respectively on Wednesday when they were staying at their Banani DOHS residence in the capital.
One of the texts had ‘abt’, presumably banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team, typed at the end of the text.
The text to Yasmeen read: ‘Welcome to our new top list! Your breath may at anytime. abt.’
The message that Zafar Iqbal received said: ‘Hi unbeliever! We will strangulate you soon.’
Security measures have been taken following the complaint, added the police officer-in-charge.
