The World Water Day will be observed in the country as elsewhere around the globe on Saturday, aiming to raise awareness to save water.

The day will be observed with due significance in Bangladesh through joint programmes by the Department of Public Health Engineering, United Nations Information Centre, United Nations Children’s Fund, The World Bank, Bangladesh WASH Alliance, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Bangladesh Center for Advanced Studies, and NGO Forum for Public Health.

This year’s theme of the Day is ‘Water and Energy’, directly related to the management of fresh water resources and its impact on health and environment.

Media is an important stakeholder which highlights the challenges and prospects in ensuring a better management of water resources in Bangladesh, influencing the policy level and professionals in the sector.

With a view to exploring the key issues of water and energy as a pre-condition to ‘save water for saving energy’, a Meet the Press on The Water-Energy Nexus will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at the Jatiya Press Club.

Dr M Mujibur Rahman, Professor of Department of Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering Division, BUET, will brief the press on the thematic issue. Prof Dr M Feroze Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor, Stamford University; and Dr M Ashraf Ali, Professor of Department of Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering Division, BUET, and Director, ITN–BUET will be present as Expert Commentators.

Dr A Atiq Rahman, Executive Director of Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies, will chair & moderate the event.

Representatives from print, electronic and online media will participate in the Meet the Press along with the sector professionals from the concerned government agencies, UN bodies, and national and international development organisations.
