Talking to reporters after a views-exchange meeting at Nagar Bhaban in the capital, the minister also said once the project is completed, it will take only 37 minutes to reach Motijheel from Uttara.

Besides, there will be 16 terminals on 20.1 km length of the rail route, he said adding that the commuters will be able to reach one station from another within three minutes.

Replying to a query, Quader, also the presidium member of the ruling Awami League, said ultra-modern trains will run through MRT and tickets for trips will be sold in automation system.

He hoped that the much-awaited project will help reduce traffic congestions in the city significantly.

Mentioning that 54 acres of lands is required for the constructing depot of the metro rail, Quader said 14 acress has already been allocated by Dhaka City Corporation. “A letter has been sent to Housing and Public Works Ministry for managing the remaining 40 acres from Rajuk (Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha).”
