Woman gang-raped in Dhaka

The three men waited till she was almost unconscious and then tied her hands and feet with rope before raping her

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly drugged and gang raped early yesterday at the capital’s Kadamtoli.

The victim, who had just arrived in the city a few hours before the incident, was admitted to the One-stop Crisis Center of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the evening for forensic tests.

The victim told the Dhaka Tribune that she lived with her five-year-old daughter at her sister’s house in Chandpur after having separated from her husband. “I started a love affair with a man named Abdur Rahim over the phone, six months ago. He asked me to move to Shyambazar in Dhaka with my daughter to start a new life with him,” she said.

The victim arrived in the capital from Chandpur on Saturday afternoon and two of Rahim’s friends, Liton and Shahidul, received her at Sadarghat.

“Rahim said we would rent a house and then get married. After I arrived, his  two friends rented a house and they took me there. Rahim joined us later. That night they drugged my food,” she said.

The three men waited till she was almost unconscious and then tied her hands and feet with rope before raping her. They left the scene of the crime in the morning with Tk22,000 in cash, gold ornaments, and a cell phone. In the morning, neighbours rescued her and called the police.

Sub-Inspector Farid of Kadamtoli police station took the victim to the station, but the police refused to take the case. The victim’s sister, Fatema, later came to the city and took the victim to the office of the DMP deputy commissioner of Wari. The DC asked the police officer concerned to take action.

“A case will be filed after we get the report in hand,” Officer-in-Charge of Kadamtoli police station Mostafizur Rahman said. No one had been arrested as of filing this report at 7:30pm.
