The United States (US) wants to see a bright, prosperous, stable, democratic Bangladesh with the participation of all people, said a US official here on Sunday.
Atul Keshap, Deputy Assistant Secretary for South Asia, of the US Department of State, made the comment while making a brief statement after a meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam at the Foreign Ministry.
He said the US will work with hands in hands with all the parties, people of all walks of life and the government here to that end.
Keshap, now here to attend the third security dialogue to be held on Tuesday, also said the US is very ambitious about its partnership with Bangladesh.
He said the US government will continue to help for the economic development of Bangladesh’s citizens and their safety, according to a Foreign Ministry media release.
Keshap appreciated Bangladesh’s continuous efforts to improve its ties with neighbouring countries, including Myanmar.
Political issues, including dialogue, among the political parties also came up for discussions at the meeting.
In this regard, Shahriar Alam said the government would take an initiative for dialogue with BNP if it cuts ties with Jamaat and refrains from unleashing violence.
Keshap expressed his hope that the post-election political stability will continue to prevail in Bangladesh.
He also expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the government so far regarding recruitment of factory inspectors, Labour Law amendment and compensation to Rana Plaza victims.
