Hasina can’t buy my election symbol ‘Towel’: Kader Siddiqui
President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Friday said they would resist any lopsided polls through united efforts of people and restore the caretaker government system for saving the country through holding a credible election.
“We won’t allow any one-sided election to be held in the country. We’ll resist such polls through united efforts,” he told a rally at Sakhipur Upazila Parishad playground arranged by the Krishak Sramik Janata League marking ‘Vote Looting Day’.
Jatiya Party Presidium Member Kazi Jafar Ahmed, BNP Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, BDB secretary general Maj (retd) Abdul Mannan, former Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Chowdhury, Nasrin Kader Siddiqui, Habibur Rahman Khoka, Iqbal Siddiqui, Hamidul Haque, Shamim Al Mansur Azad Siddiqui, Abdul Halim Sarker Lal and Mir Julfiker Shamim, among others, spoke at the rally held with Bangabir Kader Siddiqui in the chair.
Ruling out the possibility of any political compromise with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Kader Siddiqui said, “You (Hasina) can buy 300 seats, but not my election symbol Towel.”
He warned, “There’ll be no election in the country under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina… the election will be held under a caretaker government. We won’t allow any election without caretaker government.”
Kazi Jafar Ahmed said the ‘Manashkanya of democracy’ Hasina has turned into ‘Bishkanya’ (poison girl). “She (Hasina) is killing people like hunting birds.”
As per the Constitution, he said, there is no government in the country now as all the ministers except the Prime Minister have submitted their resignation letters. “The Prime Minister is alone running the country. We now need a united movement.”
Former Minister and BNP leader Noman said, “The caretaker government system isn’t a demand of BNP alone, it’s a demand of all. We’ll have to ensure people’s voting rights through unseating the government.”
