Tuba group managing director Delwar Hossain was released from Dhaka Central Jail on bail on Tuesday night.

Earlier, on July 24, a High Court bench comprising Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Justice M Nazrul Islam Talukder granted a two-month bail to Delwar in a case filed over the devastating fire in one of his garment factories ‘Tazreen Fashion’.

Jail sources said Delwar came out of the jail at about 8:50pm.

At least 112 people were killed and over 200 others suffered injuries in the devastating fire that raged through the Tazreen Fashions Ltd at Nischintapur in Ashulia on the outskirts of capital on November 24, 2012.

The following day, a case was filed with Ashulia police in connection with the fire.

On December 22 last year, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police submitted a charge-sheet against 13 people, including Delwar and his wife and chairman of the group Mahmuda Akther, in the case.

On February 9, 2014, a Dhaka court sent Delwar and Mahmuda to jail after rejecting their bail petitions in the case.

However, the group chairman was freed from jail on bail later while the bail petition of the managing director was rejected several times.

Some 1600 workers of five garment factories owned by Tuba Group have been on a fast-unto-death programme since July 28 demanding payment of three months’ outstanding salaries, overtime allowances and Eid bonuses.
