A treasury bench member on Thursday said in Parliament that BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman owns eight houses in London and spends huge money on a rented house over there.
“Tarique owns eight houses in Brixton, London. He spends 22,000 British pounds which is equivalent to Tk 31 lakh each month on his rented London house,” M Abdur Rahman (Faridpur-1) said while taking part in discussion on budget.
He said the people of Bangladesh want to know the source of the money that Tarique is spending in London. “What’s his job there? The government will have to find out the source of his income and what the job he is doing there.”
Abdur Rahman alleged that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia siphoned off Tk 2882 thousand crore through 37 suitcases.
The ruling party MP’s harsh words against Tarique Rahman apparently came in reply to Syeda Ashifa Ashrafi Papia (Women Seat-41) who came down heavily on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
Papia claimed that Joy owns nine houses in the USA.
Ruling party MP Sagufta Yasmin (Munshiganj-2) said her five brothers and sisters are living in the USA and she knows Joy does not own any house there.
