Tarique: Disband RAB

“RAB has now turned so notorious that even the United States have refused to provide training for the elite force”

BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman has called for disbanding elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) – the creation of his party in 2004.

“Sheikh Hasina has made a Rokkhi Bahini out of the RAB like her father,” he said at a discussion programme in London on Wednesday evening.

“Her [Sheikh Hasina’s] father created a Rokhhi Bahini after grabbing power illegally in 1972. The force eliminated thousands of members of opposition parties during that time.”

“When we formed RAB, it was good. Now, Sheikh Hasina has replaced all the good men in RAB and incorporated relatives of the Awami League,” he alleged.

“RAB has now turned so notorious that even the United States have refused to provide training for the elite force,” he said pointing to the recent allegations.

Tarique, who has been in London on bail since 2008, alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is involved with the recent abductions and killings in Bangladesh.

“An ex-lawmaker has said he informed Hasina of the Narayanganj abductions within five minutes of the kidnappings,” Tarique said.

“But those seven people died in the end. Why, with Hasina and her power, those people not rescued? Is there anything to be gained from this?”

“Awami League had blamed the BNP for Feni killing. But, those arrested now are all members of the Awami League. There is nothing to hide there.”

“During the killing of journalist couple Sagar-Runi, the then home minister had said Hasina was directly supervising the murder probe. Why has not the murder been cracked?”

Tarique also slammed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and said he was a failure and highlighted that it was Ziaur Rahman who was successful during his speech.
