Students protest DU admission bard

They protested for over an hour in front of Raju Bhashkarjya at heart of the campus on Friday morning.

Dhaka University announced on Tuesday that from the 2015-16 academic year onwards those seeking admission will get only one chance to do so. It said the measure was taken to curb malpractices in admission tests.

The DU authorities believe the move would curb number of candidates and allow them to host the admission tests on the campus.

Until now, candidates could appear for the entry test twice in a row.

Only two aspirants were found eligible to study English out of thousands who sat for admission, prompting the university to relax the department’s new conditions in order to fill seats.

“We’ve been mostly affected by the decision,” said Maqruba Tabassum Faria, one of the protesters. “We’ve been given less time to prepare on the one hand and are being deprived of a second chance on the other.”

She said the agitators wanted the DU authorities to reconsider the decision.

Acting Proctor Amzad Ali told bdnews24.com that they would not bar the aspirants if they demonstrate peacefully.
