Sri Lanka brightened their semifinal berth with their 2nd consecutive victory after beating the Netherlands by 9 wickets in the day’s Group-1 match of the ICC World Twenty20 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Monday.
Replying to the Netherlands T20 record lowest 39 runs, Sri Lanka easily reached their target making 40 for 1 in 5 overs.
Opener Kusal Perera scored 14 runs off 10 balls with a four and a six before he was caught by Michael Swart off an Ahsan Malik delivery.
Tillakaratne Dilshan made unbeaten 12 runs from 11 deliveries featuring two boundaries while Mahela Jayawardene added unconquered 11 runs off 10 balls also featured two fours.
Ahsan Malik claimed the only wicket for 18 runs in 2 overs.
Earlier, sent in to bat first, the Netherlands stuck at 39 runs for all in 10.3 overs.
Two down batsman Tom Cooper scored the team’s highest 16 runs off 18 balls with two fours.
Ben Cooper (8), Mudassar Bukhari (4), Pieter Seelaar (3), Logan van Beek (1) and Wesley Barresi (1) were the other scorer for the Netherlands while the remaining four batsmen, including skipper Peter Borren, returned to the pavilion with a duck.
Ajantha Mendis claimed three wickets for 12 runs in 2.3 overs; Angelo Mathews also bagged three wickets for 16 runs in his four overs spell while Lasith Malinga captured two wickets and Nuwan Kulasekara took one wicket conceding 5 and 0 runs respectively.
