Anti-Corruption Commission says that the probe report is expected soon

The investigation on the wealth of Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana is at its final stages, Anti Corruption Commission Secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury has said.

The comment was made in response to a relevant query at the monthly briefing of the Anti-Corruption Commission held at its office on Wednesday.

Journalists inquired regarding the progress of the investigation a year after the Rana Plaza collapse which killed over 1,100 and injured 2,500 others.

The building had developed visible fissures. However, despite risks, they were said to have been forced to continue work in the building on the day of the collapse.

“It is not true that there is no visible progress on the investigation,” Secretary Faizur said.

“We sent a wealth statement notice to Rana’s father Abdul Khaleque and he has submitted a report. Sohel Rana is in jail, that is why we could not send him the notice.”

“The investigation into the wealth of Sohel Rana is in its final stages. It will be submitted at the office very soon,” he told the media.

Allegations had arisen that the Rana Plaza building was established on a piece of grabbed land and a pond, what is believed to have been possible by use of power.
