Singer Rumey sent to jail

Arfin-Rumey

A court here on Thursday sent popular singer Arfin Rumey to jail canceling his bail in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 Arifur Rahman passed the order after a hearing over a petition filed by Rumey’s wife Lamia Islam.

The court fixed March 23 for framing charges against the accused.

Lamia’s lawyer Arif Uddin Ahmed appealed for the cancellation of Rumey’s bail as he failed to give his wife a monthly amount of Tk 20,000 and open a fixed deposit receipt (FDR) account of Tk20 lakh in his son’s name as per the condition of his bail.

Lamia Islam, 1st wife of Rumey, filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station October 12 last year on charge of torturing her. Rumey’s brother Yeasin was also made accused in the case.

Rumey secured bail on the following day on a surety of Tk 20,000 in the presence of plaintiff Lamia.

Rumey got married with Lamia in 2008. The Rumey-Lamia couple has a son named Arian.

Rumey married Kamrun Nesa, a Bangladeshi-born American citizen, on October 24, 2012.
