Shibir man killed in clash with cops in Chuadanga

 

An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the associate student body of Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed and another injured in a clash with policemen at Darshana in Damurhuda upazila on Thursday.

 

The deceased was identified as Abdullah,26.

 

Witnesses said some local Shibir men brought out a procession at Darshana rail bazar around 3 pm as part of their central programme.

 

When police obstructed the Shibir men, they attacked the law enforcers, triggering a clash.  Police opened fire on the Shibir activists during the clash that left Abdullah dead on the spot and another activist injured.

 

Police cordoned off the area following the incident.

 

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Delwar Hossain and Police Super Abdur Rahim Shah Chowhdury visited the spot.

 

Police Super Abdur Rahim said police tried to resist the Shibir men while they were vandalising a Puja mandap and the law enforcers fired 15 rounds of bullet as they attacked them.

 

DC Delwar Hossain said now the situation is under control and the police have been kept on high alert.

 

Locals said police took away the body of the Shibir activist.
