Speakers at a rally of the Ganajagaran Mancha have expressed their conviction that the new generation will continue to resist anti-liberation forces.
The rally was organised on Friday at Shahbagh, in capital Dhaka, marking the Mancha’s first anniversary.
!971 war veterans, senior journalists, and human rights and cultural activists addressed the gathering.
Deputy Commander during Liberation War AK Khandker said the new generation would bring positive changes to the country.
“They want to make the country something to be proud of. I believe they can do it. No obstacle can stop them from achieving the target.”
Journalist Abed Khan said: “Bangladesh does not belong to a few intellectuals, politicians, and other people; it is a young generation’s Bangladesh.”
He said the Mancha embraces those who were in favour of democracy, the Liberation War and independence, and all those who hated the Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir.
“Ganajagaran Mancha has unmasked those who nurture an anti-Liberation War spirit.”
The three-day programme ended with the rally beginning at around 4:30pm and a cultural function in the evening.
However, Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker said the photo exhibition organised on the street from Shahbagh to TSC marking the anniversary would continue for seven more days.
He said he was confident that the Mancha could realise its six-point charter of demands.
Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Nasir Uddin Yusuf Bachchu said the movement begun by the young generation would continue until all the Razakar, Al-Badr and Al-Shams members, who fought against Bangladesh’s independence, were tried, and the Jamaat and Shibir driven out.
International Crimes Tribunal prosecutor Turin Afroz, human rights activist Khushi Kabir and a Vice-President of Ekattorer Ghatok-Dalal Nirmul Committee Shyamali Nasrin Chowdhury also addressed the rally.
