Land Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam has been appointed as new Cabinet Secretary.
He will replace Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan who has been made an Alternate Executive Director at the World Bank.
The public administration ministry issued an order on Sunday to this regard, making Alam the 21st Cabinet Secretary.
The ministry earlier in the day had also cancelled Bhuiyan’s post-retirement leave and appointed him to the World Bank post for the next three years.
Bhuiyan was scheduled to go on PRL from Dec 14.
The government has granted him lien from Nov 1 to Dec 14 to take up his new assignment in Washington.
He was appointed the 20th Cabinet secretary on Oct 3, 2011.
Born in Cox’s Bazar on Dec 14, 1959, Shafiul Alam completed his BA and LLB in 1979-80 and MA in English in 1981 from the Chittagong University.
He later did MS in Development Administration from the Birmingham University.
He will go on PRL on Dec 13, 2018.
The 1982 Bangladesh Civil Service cadre has served in many important positions over the last 30 years.
He had served as the deputy commissioner of both Magura and Mymensingh districts.
Alam was a Member Directing Staff (MDS) of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC).
He was the chairman of National Housing Authority and Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation.
He also served as the Rajshahi divisional commissioner, additional secretary to the former communications ministry and the chairman of Land Appeal Board.
Alam undertook numerous local and international training programmes, and has many publications to his name, which include probation, magistracy and general administration.
