The immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport barred journalist Shafik Rehman from going abroad on Thursday.
Shafik Rehman’s personal assistant Haripad Das said he was scheduled to fly to the United Kingdom K at 7:00am, to be with his wife now undergoing treatment in London.
An immigration official of the airport confirmed the incident and said Shafik Rehman failed to catch the flight on time as they took time to scrutinise his travel documents.
The immigration official, however, said Shafik can fly in the next flight.
Shafik Rehman is currently on bail in a case filed for an alleged attempt to abduct and murder prime minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy in the United States.
He walked out of Kashimpur jail in Gazipur five months into his arrest in the case on 6 September last year.
