The BNP chief will be disqualified for the next general election if she is convicted in a graft case.

Two senior BNP leaders threatened to go on an outright oust-government movement if Khaleda Zia is wrongfully convicted in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

BNP Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy issued the threats at two separate programs on Sunday.

“We’ll initiate a movement to ensure the government falls if any unjustified verdict is given against Khaleda Zia” said BNP Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain while speaking at a discussion. He also said senior BNP leaders are all ready to be voluntarily arrested if the party chairperson is wrongfully convicted.

Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal’s Dhaka north city unit organized the program at Dhaka Reporter’s Unity (DRU).

Mosharraf alleged that the date for delivering verdict in the “false and fabricated” case has been fixed abruptly as part of the government’s plot to hold another “farcical” national election like that of January 5, 2014 by keeping the BNP chairperson out of the race.

He warned that the government will not be able to hold any “lopsided” election, no matter how many plots they hatch. “We will establish a pro-people government by holding the next polls under a non-party administration after ousting you (government) from power,” he added.

Senior BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy addresses a discussion, organized by Arafat Rahman Koko Jubo O Kira Sangsad arranged the program, marking BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s younger son’s third death anniversary, at National Press Club, on Sunday, January 28, 2018 Focus Bangla

Speaking at another discussion at the National Press Club, Gayeshwar said: “Do you (government) think we will only shed tears if you send Khaleda Zia to jail? We will not cry. But make sure you fall from grace before her release.”

Gayeshwar said not only Khaleda but also the entire nation will be freed from the current “government’s jail” with its fall through a movement.

Arafat Rahman Koko Jubo O Kira Sangsad arranged the program, marking BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s younger son’s third death anniversary.

A special court in Dhaka fixed February 8 to deliver the verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against Khaleda and five other people.

Khaleda will be disqualified for the next general election if she is convicted in the case.
