Alleging that foreign domineering forces are trying to turn Bangladesh into a subservient state, opposition leader Khaleda Zia has urged the country’s people to get united to save the country and free its democracy from the conspirators and the impending danger.

“The conspiracies by the enemies are on against our beloved motherland though it had been freed from the enemies in 1971,” she said in a message issued on Sunday on the eve of Victory Day.

Khaleda, also the BNP chairperson, also alleged that some identified local vested quarters are abetting the foreign evil forces to implement their blueprints.

“We must forge a national unity imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War to save our beloved country, its independence and sovereignty from the hands of the evil forces, and free democracy from danger,” the former premier said.

Mentioning that the march forward of democracy was hampered and people’s basic and human rights were snatched several times after the country’s Independence, Khaleda reminded that the country’s people through their movements and strong struggles restored democracy and their rights every time.

She greeted people on the occasion of the Victory Day and prayed for their continued happiness, peace, prosperity and welfare.

The nation will celebrate the 42nd anniversary of victory over the Pakistani occupation forces on Monday, paying rich tributes to the three million martyrs for their supreme sacrifice for the nation.

On December 16, 1971, the nation achieved the victory after a nine-month bloody war.
