Russia looks forward to installing more nuclear power plants in Bangladesh, Alexander Nikolaev, Russian envoy in Dhaka, has said.
The Russian ambassador said this while interacting with members of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) at the National Press Club in the capital on Tuesday.
“Moscow looks forward to building more such plants if Dhaka proposes some in future,” Nikolaev said.
The envoy made the comments a week after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government envisaged another nuclear plant in the southern part of the country to provide electricity to the coastal districts.
On September 2, Bangladesh laid the foundation stone for its maiden nuclear power plant in northwestern Rooppur of Pabna in line with a landmark deal signed with Moscow to be completed in next five years.
The plant is expected to provide 10 percent of the country’s total power, aiming to increase power production to 20,000 MW by 2021.
