RMG workers stage demo in city

 Workers of several garment factories on Thursday staged demonstration on different roads of the city demanding security of their lives and a holiday for the day as a mark of condolence for those who lost lives in Rana Plaza collapse.
Witnesses said several thousand workers from a few garment factories of Rampur brought out procession on the Rampura –Malibagh road at about 10.00 am, suspending traffic in the area for quite some time.
Besides, several hundred more workers from Hazipara and Malibagh joined their procession at that time.
The workers demanded that the authorities ensure security of their lives while in work.
They have been forced to took to the streets with the demand as an eight-storey building in Savar bus stand area collapsed on Wednesday morning, killing over 170 people and injuring many others, they observed.
During the demonstration for two hours, they also demanded that the day be decaled as holiday as the government earlier, following the Savar tragedy, announced mourning day for Thursday.
Later, the RMG workers withdrew their agitation at about 11.30 am as the leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) declared a holiday conceding to their demand.
