RAB, police and other security forces are moving in from all directions towards Hifazat-e Islam’s rally venue at Motijheel amid a blackout
The law keepers are apparently going to disperse the gathering, which police say is continuing beyond the time granted.
Amid a blackout in the business district, the Hifazat supporters have torched lights at several places while speeches are being made on the stage after a day of deadly violence.
The whole area is cordoned by the law enforcers. Staying put there are some 50,000 people, most of whom are activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir, according to police.
Police continued to position themselves on the street stretching from Paltan to Dainik Bangla intersection since 8:30pm.
Meanwhile, some 600 members of RAB and BGB were deployed at Paltan at around 11:30pm.
bdnews24.com Correspondent Sulaiman Niloy said the RAB members started marching towards Motijheel at around 12:45am Monday.
He said the RAB team crossed the Dainik Bangla intersection at around 1:45pm and the protesters at Motijheel started to chant slogans as soon as the law enforcers reached in front of the City Center.
Police and BGB were staying at Paltan to cover the RAB personnel, he added.
He said law enforcers have also reportedly been deployed in front of Notre Dam College in Motijheel.
