Former RAB-11 Commanding Officer Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mohammad was behind the ‘abduction’ of another Awami League supporter in Narayanganj, the businessman’s family has alleged.
Mohammad is already under the scanner for his alleged involvement in the abduction and murder of seven men including Narayanganj City’s Ward-2 Councillor Nazrul Islam.
A businessman from Siddhirganj, Ismail Hossain, has been ‘missing’ for over three months.
His family said they did not lodge a complaint until now because they were threatened by the former RAB officer.
Ismail’s brother Abdul Mannan on Wednesday claimed Sayeed Mohammad had demanded Tk 20 million from their family after Ismail was abducted.
“My sister-in-law Jyotsna Begum had managed Tk 10 million, but that was not enough.”
Mannan was speaking to reporters at a human-chain protest in front of the Narayanganj Press Club.
He alleged that one Nur Alam, brother-in-law of seven-murder prime accused Nur Hossain, was linked to the abduction of Ismail Hossain.
RAB abducted Islam at the behest of Alam who wanted to control the contractor business in the area, Mannan alleged.
Ismail’s family also sought the prime minister’s intervention.
The new allegations against the former RAB-11 commander surfaces after Nazrul Islam’s father-in-law claimed RAB personnel had killed Nazrul and six others after taking Tk 60 million from Nur Hossain.
Nur Hossain was councillor of Narayanganj’s Ward-2. He was also the vice-president of Siddhirganj unit of ruling Awami League. But he was expelled after being accused of the murders.
Two days after the seven men were abducted from the port city, three RAB officers including Tarek Sayeed Mohammad were removed from RAB-11 and sent back to their parent forces – two to army and the third to navy.
After their dead bodies were found floating on the Shitalakhyya River several days later and Shahidul made the allegations, the trio was sent on forced retirement.
The High Court last Sunday also issued an order asking the inspector general of police to take all steps necessary to arrest them.
