Quit within 72 hrs, announce polls under CG: Kader, B Chy to PM

Kader Siddiqui urges President to take statesmanship initiative

Demanding resignation of the Prime Minister within 72 hours, Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) President Bangabir Kader Siddiqui on Monday urged the President to take a statesmanship initiative for saving the country from the political disaster.

He also urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to step down within 72 hours and accept the demand for a nonparty neutral caretaker government to oversee the next national election.

Kader Siddiqui made the call at a press conference at the National Press Club. It was arranged in protest against the arrest of opposition leaders.

Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury was also present.

B Chowdhury said if the Prime Minister really wants peace, she should announce that the election will be held under a caretaker government quitting as soon as possible.

Kader Siddiqui said, “When the government has failed to properly run the country, the opposition has also demonstrated its failure to protect the country and the nation.”

He urged the opposition to withdraw the hartal for the sake of students’ academic life and removing people’s sufferings.

Quoting Prime Minister’s speech ‘I want peace, not premiership’, B Chowdhury said, “It’s the best gift for the nation. “If you (PM) really want peace, quit as soon as possible and announce that next election under a caretaker government.”

He said they want to see such announcement from the Prime Minister for the sake of peace and stability.

Both the leaders condemned the arrest of opposition leaders.

KSJL Secretary General Habibur Rahman Talukdar and BDB Secretary General Maj (retd) Abdul Mannan were also present.
