Quami Madrasa delegation submits report to PM

A delegation of Quami Madrasa National Education Commission on Saturday submitted a report to the prime minister demanding government recognition of their education.

They also demanded issuing madrasa certificates under a single Quami education board.
Led by Maulana Fariduddin Mashud, co-chairman of the commission, handed over the report to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Gono Bhaban, sources at the commission told The Daily Star.

Qawmi madrasas are a remnant of Bangladesh’s traditional Muslim educational system. Although, post-1971, they have slowly modernised by teaching in the medium of Bangla instead of Urdu, as well as by including some English and mathematics, they still largely follow the medieval-inspired Dars Nizami syllabus.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid in the recent times said his government was working relentlessly to modernise madrasa education keeping its goal intact.

He also said the government wants to upgrade madrasa education so that students who pass from madrasas can also contribute to different fields of national development.
