President announced donating corneas of his eyes posthumously

 

President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday announced donating two corneas of his eyes posthumously.

 

“I’ve glaucoma disease in my eyes. I’m not sure whether donation of my corneas will be of any worth or not… if it will help, I’m declaring to donate my eyes posthumously,” he said while inaugurating Sandhani Bhaban at a programme held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city.

 

Sandhani Jatiya Chokkhudaan Samity and Sandhani Kendriya Parishad organised the function.

 

The President urged people of all strata of the society to come forward for donating blood and for posthumous eyes donation.

 

He said: “People are still dying due to scarcity of blood and 14 lakh of people are carrying the curse of blindness in the country. Like others, I’m also waiting for that golden day when no one will die due to scarcity of blood and no one will be deprived to see the beauty of the world due to blindness.”

 

Mentioning that Sandhani is advancing with the support of people from all strata, Abdul Hamid hoped that Sandhani will advance more with the love of the country’s people.

 

Former Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Secretary General of Sandhani Jatiya Chokkhudaan Samity Prof Dr M Habib Millat, President of Sandhani Kendriya Parishad M Aqib Jahan and convener of Sandhani Bhaban inauguration celebration committee Prof Dr Quamrul Hasan Khan also spoke at the function. President of Sandhani Jatiya Chokkhudaan Samity Prof Dr M Ali Asgar Morol presided.

 

On the occasion, the President formally declared the inauguration of Sandhani Bhaban.
