PM seeks more Saudi investment

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday sought more Saudi investment and cooperation for the development of different sectors in Bangladesh, including shipbuilding.

President of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali Al-Madani was also present.

PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

Expressing satisfaction over the existing ties between the two countries, Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has special relations with Saudi Arabia which are deeply rooted. “Bangladesh enjoys deep religious and spiritual attachment with Saudi Arabia,” she noted.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated the commendable role of the “Fael Khair” programme being run by the King Abdullah Humanitarian and Charitable Foundation.

Prince Turki bin Abdullah Aziz Al Saud, also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of King Abdullah Humanitarian and Charitable Foundation, said it provides long-term solution to the emergency shelter of the vulnerable people of Bangladesh’s southwestern part exposed to the recurrent natural calamities, and reinstated their livelihood.

At the meeting, the Saudi Prince highly lauded Bangladesh’s tremendous development in different sectors and expressed Saudi’s interest to cooperate in the socioeconomic field.

The IDB president highly appreciated the over 6.50 percent GDP growth rate being maintained by Bangladesh and expressed the bank’s eagerness to continue to work with Bangladesh.

PM’s Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad, Senior ERD Secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin and Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Golam Mashi were present.
