Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Khaleda Zia have congratulated rescuers for safely rescuing a woman 17 days into the country’s deadliest building collapse.
Reshma was rescued Friday afternoon from under the rubble of the nine-story building that caved in on April 24, trapping an unknown number of people inside.
Hours into her recovery, the premier rushed to the Savar Combined Military Hospital and enquired about her health.
She ordered the doctors and others concerned to ensure proper treatment of the woman.
The premier reached the hospital around 6:30pm on Friday, PM’s Assistant Press Secretary Noore Elahi Mina told The Daily Star.
In her immediate reaction, the prime minister had expressed her satisfaction and termed the recovery as an unprecedented incident, Mahbubul Haque Shakil, a special assistant (media) to the PM, quoted her as saying.
Shakil told The Daily Star that she had watched the whole procedure of the recovery of Reshma on a television.
The premier has ordered the officials concerned to provide the woman with proper treatment.
Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed her satisfaction over the rescue of the woman and thanked all involved in the operation.
She prayed for her early recovery, says a press statement.
In a press release, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, PM, also thanked the army personnel and all other rescuers.
