PM criticises BNP’s joy over Modi’s win

She made the remarks at an informal discussion between the prime minister and the panel of ministers

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina criticised the BNP leaders yesterday for their “special interest” in Narendra Modi-led BJP’s landslide victory.

She made the remarks at an informal discussion between the prime minister and the panel of ministers after the cabinet’s regular meeting at the Secretariat.

“The premier wanted to know the reason for their happiness from the cabinet members. She said the BNP has never found anything good in India, terming the Awami League its agent. Finally, they have found something good in the country,” a senior minister told the Dhaka Tribune after the meeting.

The minister quoted Hasina as saying: “Has the party changed its anti-Indian stance in politics? It is better to know that they have finally changed their stance. Not only the Awami League, but also the BNP has become an agent of India.”

He said: “The premier said the BNP should know that there is nothing to be so happy about in Modi’s win. We have a good relationship with the country, not with any political party. She said the relationship will continue in the future.”

The prime minister and the cabinet members also criticised the discussants of talk shows on several electronic media for their comments, regarding the relationship between India and the Awami League, made after BJP’s win.
