The planned panel would recommend regular salary hikes in keeping with the rate of inflation.

“We gave full selection grades instead of 50 percent to the first-class Bangladesh Civil Service cadres, non-cadres and the second-class officials in 2009,” Hasina said inaugurating a 150-bed Railway Hospital for government employees at Phulbari, in Dhaka, on Wednesday.

The hospital first extended its facilities to government officials in 1978. It has been modernised and handed over to the Ministry of Public Administration as the Prime Minister had promised.

Hasina said she planned to upgrade the hospital to a medical college in future.

She criticised the BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami alliance and the Hifazat-e Islam.

“They (Hifazat) have hurt people’s religious sentiments,” the Prime Minister said, referring to the Chittagong-based Islamist group’s mayhem in Dhaka in early May.

“Hifazat activists had damaged 63 buses used for transporting government officials. Of them, 28 were set on fire, of which 16 had completely burnt and the rest suffered significant damage,” she said.

She urged government officials to work for the welfare of Bangladeshi people.

“We must build the country with a concerted effort,” Hasina said.
