BNP leaders have urged everyone to join its ongoing movement to unseat the government before Jan 5, the date of the national election.
They gave this call in a discussion on Monday at the National Press Club to mark Victory day.
BNP leader Hafizuddin Ahmed, Shahjahan Omar and Selima Rahman, and its former leader Oli Ahmed, now LDP chief, spoke at the discussion.
Hafizuddin said: “The country’s present situation does not suggest that today (Monday) is the Victory Day… The government forces are indiscriminately killing democracy-loving people like occupation forces.”
He termed the present government a ‘terrorist government’.
He urged all to join the movement to oust it before Jan 5.
Omar claimed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was responsible for the country’s present political turmoil.
He appealed to the business community to put pressure on the Prime Minister to quit.
Oli Ahmed claimed that Bangladesh’s Liberation War began after Gen. Ziaur Rahman’s declaration.
“Awami League leaders fled to India that time. None of them participated in the combat.”
The Supreme Court in a verdict, though, had said it was Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, not Zia, who had declared independence.
