No talks with BNP on election: Maya

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Friday said no dialogue can be held with BNP on polls for now as there will be no general election in the country before 2019.

“Discussions might be held with BNP or any other party on democracy, law and order, speedy trial of the war criminals and execution of verdicts or on any other pro-people issue but not the general election,” he said.

The minister was exchanging views with the local journalists at the Circuit House in the afternoon.

Maya also urged the journalists not only to appreciate his works but to criticise his faults and mistakes constructively so that he can work properly and smoothly for the people’s welfare.

District Awami League president Dr Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan MP, deputy commissioner Md Ismail Hossain and police super M Amir Jafar, among others, were present.

At the meeting, journalist leaders placed some demands to mitigate the sufferings of the people of the district and urged the minister to take early steps in this regard.

The demands include constructing a bridge over the Dhonagoda River at Matlab South upazila, lifting toll collection from Chandpur-Faridganj Bridge, developing Chandpur Press Club and arranging accommodation facilities for the press club members by the river bank adjacent to press club.

Instantly, the minister sanctioned 10 metric tons of rice for the development of the press club, assuring the journalists of extending his all-out co-operation.
