Bangladesh Bank (BB) authorities have slapped restriction on all kinds of transactions through mobile banking till 5pm Tuesday, the polling day.
Responding to a request of the Election Commission, the central bank authorities have issued the directive on Monday afternoon, said BB Executive Director Mahfuzur Rahman.
He said: “We have changed our earlier decision of imposing limit on money transaction through mobile account, responding to a request of the EC. The restriction will take effect immediately.”
“The restriction on mobile money transaction will be lifted after 5pm Tuesday.”
The directive came hours after the BB limited all kinds of transactions through mobile banking till midnight on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day in a directive, the central bank said all types of transactions including cash in, cash out, person to person payment, merchant payments and mobile top-up through a mobile account should not be exceeded Tk1,000.
“An account holder would be allowed to transact a total of Tk 1,000 from his mobile phone account till Tuesday midnight,” said AFM Asaduzzaman, general manager of BB governor secretariat.
“All normal mobile transactions would be allowed from April 29,” he added.
It asked all banks and their subsidiaries to follow it in providing their clients with the mobile financial services.
Dhaka North, Dhaka South and Chittagong City Corporation polls are set to be held on Tuesday.
