N’ganj 7-murder investigation officer changed

The move comes after relatives of slain city councillor Nazrul Islam alleged the IO was in good terms with prime suspect Nur Hossain, a local Awami League leader.

Narayanganj district’s SP Khandker Mohid Uddin said the newly-appointed district detective police OC Mamunur Rashid will now investigate the case.

Nazrul, along with six others, went missing on Apr 27. Their bodies were recovered from the Shitalakhya River several days later.

His wife Selina Islam Beauty filed a case of abduction against Siddhirganj unit Awami League Vice-President Nur Hossain and General Secretary Haji Md Yasin.

Police on May 3 raided Hossain’s house and detained 12 men from there.

The Narayanganj district’s deputy commissioner, RAB-11 commanding officer and the SP were removed after the abductions.

On Wednesday, three RAB members were sacked following allegations that they had taken Tk 60 million for the murders.

On Tuesday, SP Mohid Uddin spoke with Nazrul’s family members.

After the meeting, Nazrul’s wife alleged then IO, detective police Inspector Abdul Awal, was too close to Nur Hossain to investigate him.

Speaking to bdnews24.com, the SP said, “We took the decision for the sake of proper investigation.”
