The National Citizens Party (NCP) has no objection to the next general election taking place in April next year if the reforms are visible before the polls, the party’s Chief Organiser (North) Sarjis Alam said today (9 June).
“We have no objection to holding the election in April if we can see the trial and basic reforms in the judiciary, law-enforcing agencies and Election Commission are visible by this time,” he said while talking to journalists at Chowrangi crossing in Panchagarh today.
“In the past, we have seen the misuse of power and black money during the election period. We want a level planning field ahead of the polls,” he said.
“We hope that all political parties, whether small or big, will get equal opportunities and be allowed to take part in the election with their full capacity,” he added.
Stating that nobody should misuse power, the NCP leader said, “We don’t want to see any more capturing of polling centres and looting of ballot papers in future.”
The interim government must show professionalism through necessary reforms in the law-enforcing agencies, the Election Commission and the judiciary, he added.
NCP Chief Organiser (South) Hasnat Abdullah and Coordinator of Panchagarh Sadar Tanbirul Bari Nayon were present on the occasion, among others.
