Nazia, Shahrina become 1st ever female pilots in army

For the first time ever in the history of Bangladesh Army, two female probationer pilots successfully managed their single and dual flight in the army aviation group in the capital’s Tejgaon Wednesday.

Captain Nazia Nusrat Hossain and Captain Shahrina Bintea Anwar completed their single and dual flight by Cessna 152 aropic training biman, said a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate.

Captain Nazia got her commission in the Bangladesh Army Engineering core on December 24, 2009, by attending the 61st BMA long course.

After ending all complementary courses of the engineering core, on November 16 last year, she joined the Army aviation basic course 9.

She first proved her flight capability by conducting her single solo flight on June 18 this year.

On the other hand, Captain Shahrina got her commission in the Army Ordinance core on December 24, 2009, in the same BMA long course and joined the Army aviation course 9 on November 16 last year.

She conducted her first solo flight on June 30 of this year.

The statement signed by ISPR Assistant Director Rezaul Karim Shammi said the addition of female pilots in Bangladesh Army would open a new horizon and the two female pilots would work as a source of inspiration for Bangladeshi women.

Army aviation is the only flight training organisation of Bangladesh Army.

Since January 1, 1978, a huge number of army pilots, all of them males, received training there.

The organisation marked a new era by training female pilots from November 16 last year.
